Position Title: Emerging Leaders Program Director

Location: Kurumbuka Leadership Hub | Kigali, Rwanda, Kicukiro/Masaka

Reports to: Africa Director

Employment Type: Full-time

Position Summary

Kurumbuka Leadership Solutions is seeking an experienced and passionate leader to serve as our Emerging Leaders Program Director. The successful candidate will have a critical role in advancing our mission to bring Christ-centered transformation for leaders and their communities in Africa and helping us develop and empower 10,000 African leaders in 1,000 communities by 2030. The Emerging Leaders Program Director will provide strategic, spiritual, and operational leadership for the emerging leaders program. They will help strengthen our emerging leaders ecosystem across Rwanda, the region, and Sub-Saharan Africa. They will invest in the growth of our Trek program, oversee our partnership with Youth Impact Mission, proactively build partnerships with other relevant local and regional youth organizations, and establish a new Kurumbuka Learning Centre in partnership with Trinity Western University.

This role requires a strong Christian faith, a passion for developing young African leaders, exceptional integrity, proven leadership competence, and relevant experience in Rwanda and the region. The successful candidate should be a proven strategic and systems thinker who knows how to respond to opportunities, develop curriculum, lead teams effectively, build systems that support sustainable growth, and build high-value partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with other Kurumbuka leaders to advance our mission, vision, values, and Christian identity.

  • Promote and integrate our unique Abundant Leadership approach into all programs.

  • Provide excellent strategic, systematic, and operational leadership for the Emerging Leaders Program.

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop the Emerging Leaders core staff team, facilitators, and volunteers.

  • Invest in our current Trek program (curriculum development, discipleship, student experience) and work with the team to find the right model for sustainable growth in the East African region.

  • Lead the establishment and implementation of a Kurumbuka Learning Centre in partnership with Trinity Western University. This will include supporting recruitment, admissions, hiring, supporting program development, and orienting new staff hires.

  • Oversee and develop our partnership with Youth Impact Mission.

  • Represent Kurumbuka in youth-related initiatives, leadership conferences, and platforms, education networks, and technical working groups whenever relevant.

  • Develop and strengthen strategic partnerships with organizations, institutions, universities, churches, and youth movements aligned with Kurumbuka’s mission.

  • Collaboratively engage in strategic planning, business development, budget, reporting, and fundraising efforts as required.

  • Work closely with the Executive Leaders Program and Alumni networks to strengthen mentorship, continuity, and program growth.

  • Work closely with the Africa Director and other team members to carry out other responsibilities assigned in support of the organization’s mission.

  • Advise on the development of our physical property and learning facilities as we build the Kurumbuka Leadership Hub.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Masters Degree in a related field (Doctoral degree is a bonus)

  • 10+ years of strategic leadership experience working in youth ministry, leadership development, and/or secondary and post-secondary education.

  • Demonstrated success in building high capacity teams, developing leadership programs and curriculum, and implementing effective systems to sustain growth.

  • Competence in budgeting, reporting, and partner engagement.

  • Fluent in English; working knowledge of Kinyarwanda, Swahili, or French is a strong advantage.

  • Rwandan nationals strongly encouraged to apply. Regional experience considered an asset.
