Event Coordinator
SUMMER POSITION
Job Description
Join our Operations team and play a hands-on role in growing Kurumbuka’s community and impact.
As our Event Coordinator, you’ll help bring meaningful experiences to life—from a creative crowdfunding campaign to a high-impact donor event. Your work will directly support our mission by strengthening relationships with supporters and expanding awareness of our work.
What You’ll Do
You’ll be involved in the full lifecycle of event planning, gaining real-world experience at every stage:
Research ideas and help shape the vision for events
Build and manage detailed event plans
Design engaging event programs
Coordinate with vendors, venues, and volunteers
Source materials, décor, and event collateral
Support marketing and promotion efforts
Lead day-of event execution
Evaluate outcomes and identify improvements
Additional responsibilities may arise as needed
What You’ll Gain
This role is designed to help you grow—not just contribute.
You’ll collaborate with our Canadian team as well as our international staff. You’ll also engage directly with external partners, including vendors, volunteers, and event guests.
Through this experience, you’ll build:
Project management and leadership skills by owning key event responsibilities
Communication and teamwork skills across diverse teams and stakeholders
Digital and organizational skills through regular use of tools, platforms, and systems
Cross-cultural competency through collaboration with our Africa-based team
Strategic thinking by contributing to donor engagement and retention efforts
You’ll also gain access to Kurumbuka’s leadership development resources—tools we use to train emerging and executive leaders across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Why This Role Matters
At Kurumbuka, you won’t just be helping run events—you’ll be contributing to the growth of a mission-driven organization. This is an opportunity to develop adaptability, creativity, and critical thinking while making a tangible impact.
If you’re organized, motivated, and excited about bringing people together for a purpose, we’d love to hear from you.
Qualifications
A mature Christian with an active faith in Jesus Christ
A strong commitment to Kurumbuka’s Mission, Vision, and Values
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks or timelines
Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence interacting with a variety of stakeholders (e.g., donors, volunteers, vendors)
Ability to take initiative and work both independently and collaboratively
Basic experience with event coordination and project management would be an asset.
Adaptable and able to problem-solve in dynamic, fast-paced environments
