Social Media Coordinator

SUMMER POSITION

Job Description

The Social Media Coordinator will have a critical role in the successful growth of Kurumbuka Leadership Solutions as we develop and empower 10,000 African leaders by 2030.

As a member of the Marketing & Communications team, the Social Media Coordinator will strengthen Kurumbuka’s digital presence in Canada and expand access to leadership learning resources. You’ll help bring our story to life across digital platforms by engaging supporters, amplifying our mission, and expanding access to leadership learning resources. From content creation to campaign support, your work will directly shape how people connect with and understand Kurumbuka.

What You’ll Do

You’ll be involved in the full lifecycle of social media strategy and execution, gaining real-world experience at every stage:

  • Research trends and help shape content strategy

  • Plan and manage a social media content calendar

  • Create and publish engaging content (captions, graphics, short-form video)

  • Repurpose leadership resources (podcasts, masterclasses, diagnostic tools) into accessible digital content (social posts, lead magnets)

  • Support digital campaigns, fundraising, and event promotion

  • Engage with our online community through comments, messages, and interactive content

  • Collaborate with our international staff to gather stories and content

  • Track performance metrics and analyze results

  • Evaluate outcomes and identify opportunities for growth

  • Additional responsibilities may arise as needed

What You’ll Gain

This is an opportunity to develop creativity, adaptability, and strategic thinking while making a tangible impact. You’ll collaborate with our Canadian and Rwandan team, as well as engage with leaders across Africa. You’ll help translate on-the-ground impact into meaningful online engagement.

Through this experience, you’ll build:

  • Content creation and storytelling skills across multiple platforms

  • Communication and teamwork skills across diverse teams and stakeholders

  • Digital marketing and analytics skills through hands-on platform use

  • Cross-cultural competency through collaboration with our Africa-based team

  • Strategic thinking by contributing to audience growth and engagement

You’ll also gain access to Kurumbuka’s leadership development resources — tools we use to train emerging and executive leaders across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Qualifications

  • A mature Christian with an active faith in Jesus Christ

  • A strong commitment to Kurumbuka’s Mission, Vision, and Values

  • Strong written communication skills

  • Creative thinker with attention to detail

  • Comfortable with digital platforms and quick to learn new tools

  • Ability to research and apply social media and marketing trends

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools (e.g. Affinity or Canva).

Position Details

  • Total Hours: 280 hours (between late May and end of August)

  • Scheduling Options:

    • 8 weeks full-time, or

    • 16 weeks part-time (preferred)

We’re flexible in how the hours are structured, with a preference for a part-time schedule spread across the summer to support consistent content creation and engagement.

  • Compensation: $19.85/hour

  • This is a Canada Summer Jobs position. Candidates must be under 30 and eligible to work in Canada.
